Red Hill Rediscovered: "The Best of the Lot" Peter Rothermel's Painting of Patrick Henry

Join Cody Youngblood, Director of Preservation & Collections at Red Hill, as he analyzes the centerpiece of the museum’s art collection, Patrick Henry Before the Virginia House of Burgesses (1851) by Peter F. Rothermel.

At six and a half feet tall and five feet wide, this landmark painting is one of the most important works of historical American Romanticism, and cemented Patrick Henry’s legacy in the 19th century. Mr. Youngblood will dissect the painting’s imagery and subjects from an art history perspective.

About the speaker:

Mr. Youngblood is an art and architectural historian. He holds a B.A. in Historic Preservation and Museum Studies from the University of Mary Washington and an M.A. in the Conservation of Historic Buildings from the University of York. He has formerly served as Museum Director of George C. Marshall’s Dodona Manor and Collections Manager at Oatlands Historic House & Gardens in Leesburg, Virginia.
